Twenty five couples on Monday were
married at a special mass wedding at the 302 Artillery Regiment of the
Nigerian Army, Onitsha.
The wedding took place at St Peter’s
Military Church (Anglican), where the Vicar and officiating Minister,
Capt. B.G Newton, called on the newly wedded couples to always put God
first in whatever they do in order to bless their marriage.
Newton reminded the 25 couples of their
responsibilities to the society, saying they owed it a duty to train
their children in the fear of God and in accordance with societal norms.
Commander 302 Artillery Regiment, Col.
T. A Gagariga, called on the newlyweds to follow the footprints of Jesus
Christ by living up to their calling as husbands and wives whose
responsibility it is to raise better society.
Gagariga added that the occasion was
unique in the sense that it was the first time in history of the
Nigerian Army, that soldiers had come together to legalise their
marriages before God and prayed God to grant them their good heart
desires.
“For us in the army, it has made our job easier because marriage helps us to know the next of kins of soldiers.”
Sgt and Mrs. Chindo Larai thanked God
for giving them the opportunity to be united in love through wedding and
promised to use the new status given to them to make a better society.
Larai said, “We are happy today to be
joined together in marriage, most of us had no opportunity to do wedding
because of the job. But today, we are happy to do wedding and we pray
to God to bless our commander, Col. Gagariga who made it possible.”
